Title: Help id a Mitchell reel, part missing.
Post by: Shaun123 on September 13, 2020, 07:47:57 PM
Hi all. I am looking to identify a Mitchell reel model, it has a half bail arm. Looks like there should be a washer under the spool nut but it's missing. Any help appreciated.

Here is another picture with spool nut off.

It looks to be possibly a 3rd Gen Mitchell 300.  Likely around 51-53.

You probably are missing (2) pieces -- a friction drag washer & a drag compression spring.

Best,

Fred

Thanks foakes,  do you know if these parts are still available separately please? Is this something you sell or do you know who may have them for sale. Regards Shaun

Yes, Shaun --

Those parts are available from multiple sources, including my shop.  Shouldn't be an issue.

We are mandatorily evacuated from our home due to a major fire event -- and it could be 3-4 weeks before we can return to our home -- which escaped damage at this point.

I will be happy to help you if you can not source the parts online -- N/C.

But for some of our close communities, it could be weeks, months, or years -- and even then things will never be back to a normal situation.

Best Always,

Fred

Your reel appears, as a result if the "A" prefix & low 5 digit # to be an early 3rd version, most likely '50/'51ish. You'll need 2-#5 washers, one between the spindle & spool and one between the spool and spring washer.

Here's probably a more time accurate schematic:
