Title: South Bend 925 Line Roller Sleeve
Post by: sandbar on December 30, 2020, 11:39:48 PM
I've seen the other posts about this reel in another section of this site. I just wanted to point out something that wasn't mentioned previously. The line roller has a plastic (?) sleeve in between it and the shaft on the bail. I haven't done many reels but I haven't seen anything like this before. Does anyone know what it's made of? It wasn't hard, very pliable. Here's some pictures.

Not sure about South Bend's but ABU's are Teflon.

Dang, I've got a 930 w/box & manual but I was too lazy to go dig it out & look it up.  :D Most of those sleeves, if they aren't brass, in my experience, are Teflon, though.

Thanks guys. New one for me. I like it. It looks like a good idea. Are there any downfalls to this arrangement?

Nope. Other than an actual bearing it's probably the best system out there.  Although you really don't need to, I squirt a little ArmorAll on mine every now & then for lubrication. I never use oil or grease because they hold dirt and ends up gumming them up.
