Title: Mak16 stuck handle nut
Post by: pauly1010 on June 26, 2021, 02:39:33 AM
I've got a brand new mak16iisea with a handle nut that won't budge, tried heating it too. Any idea how to get this off without causing damage? Thanks.

Not familiar with your Reel however know a bit about your problem and I would try turning it in opposite direction for a couple of reasons .
1. It may be a left hand thread.
2. moving it at bit in the opposite direction if it is Right hand thread may dislodge what is sticking it .
3. Of course use some type of Penetrate oil too if you haven't
Good Luck

tried it, still won't budge. They must of used red loctite or something, thanks though. I was able to remove the pinion bearing from the inside so all is well. That handle nut will stay there forever.

I even thought maybe there was a Locking pin  or Screw holding against it.
I use a Locktite Product on Aluminum Cylinder Heads when pressing in Valve Guides and they will pretty much be there till ol Gabriel Toot's his Horn.
Glad you got it sorted .

Is it a Squared nut or one of those multifaceted 12 or 15 pointed CRazy Shaped deals ?

The mak 16sea that i have here uses a torx 20 and it's a right handed thread.  I had to put the torx bit in the vise, line up the arm and the twist the reel!!!!

Did you try putting the bit in an impact driver?

no, don't have an impact but I could chuck the handle and  turn it loose with a breaker bar...but why risk doing any damage. It'll just stay there... forever. Okuma just love that blue stuff.

It ought to be a crime.

It is a right hand reel.  Correct?
