Title: Penn Mag 980-crusty and dirty

Figured out how to take off side plates. Going to clean it up get rid of corrosion on bottom reel seat. Any tricks on gear side plate i should look out for? Very familiar with jigmaster and 1/0, 2/0 senators. On the outside looks the same

The side plate can be fragile especially around take frame screw hole....many Mag reels have been broken when tightening the screws.  Bill

Never heard of a "580." Is the "5" actually a "9" and is a 980?

Side plate clicker is loose on 980 so the copper colored circle does not engage spool teeth to click. Repair solution for this 980 side plate???

Do you mean the anti-reverse dog?  Part number 15-570 on the schematic?

There is supposed to be a spring to hold it in place.

the clicker on non handle side plate is loose. I will get replacement part from mystic. the clicker needs to be repeened. I will go with new substitude of c clip
