Title: Southern California oil spill
Post by: Brendan on October 05, 2021, 03:55:05 AM
I think its too early to tell how bad it may be. I guess we will see. I'm not selling vehicles and walking to work over it but still a bad thing to happen.
Time will tell. Tight lines, Brendan.

Don't wish for it all to end because then there'll be....................................... nothingness.

I don't understand what's going on.  They say it is not crude oil like BP Horizon, but processed oil.  What is processed oil doing in a pipe between an offshore well and shore?  I have no concept of how it will affect fishing for AT family but wish you the best of luck.

Despite what the local news is reporting the hazmat response was pretty quick and on going.  They seem more worried about the bird, mammal, and fish impact more than anything.

Saturday we were out getting ready for bugging in Long Beach harbor.  Didn't know about the spill, but we did have a sailboat pass by on its way into the harbor where the waterline was...ugly and black.  Clearly he had cruised through the spill. - john

The oil from offshore here is very poor quality, more like sludge/tar. They have to heat it up to get it to flow thru the pipes. It takes a lot of refining to make it into fuel. It's better suited to make products like asphalt.
There's natural seeps off the coast of Santa Barbara where it bubbles up, a few places it looks like an oil jakuzi. It's not as bad as it used to be, the offshore rigs relieve a lot of pressure and they've capped the worst ones with a pyramid looking structure. When the wind blows the right direction it blows it onto the beaches here in the form of tar, makes a mess of feet, dogs and anything else it hits.
