Title: 2” Clear Plastic Tubing
Post by: Bill B on April 12, 2022, 06:43:01 PM
Would anyone happen to have any ideas on where I can find AFFORDABLE 2" square clear plastic tubing?  I have an old tackle bag that would make a good jig bag.  Commercial bags are expensive, and the only tubing I can find are expensive too.  Attached is a photograph of what I'm looking for.  TIA. Bill

Search for surfcasting jig bags and look at the replacement inserts

I can't picture what you're getting at. So please post a picture after you get at it because I'm quite curious.

Do you have a drawing, plan, photo of what you are intending to accomplish, Bill?

I might offer some alternatives or sources with a little more info.

Best, Fred

Bill = I know exactly what you are looking for.  We have a "plastics" shop over on the other side of town on University by the railroad tracks (SW Plastics) that is open to the public and has all kinds of oddball scrap.  And...other things...  I won't be able to get by there for at least a week or two but I will stop in and check to see if they have anything that will work, if they do it should be affordable. - john

Jason and Fred, below is a picture of what I'm trying to accomplish.

John I'd appreciate you taking a look for me.

Yeah, I thought about the shop light protectors, and might have to go with them, just the ID is a little small at 1.20".

Like Bill said, U-Line has them on Page 97 of their new catalog I received last week.  $1.40

Being a woodworker with a good table saw, you might consider getting some decent Marine Grade 1/8" wood stock —- and make your own.  Something like this boat box I use for lake trolling.  Simple enough to measure out exactly what size you want —- them just cut some slots —- put them together and you  are done.  You could do the same thing with 1/4" plexiglas.

Lots of possibilities.

Last thing I would do is pay those outrageous prices for 2' of polycarbonate tubing.

Best, Fred

You can get 2" X 3" plastic (gutter)downspouts at most Home Depots or Lowes for fairly cheap. I know it's not the size you want but it may work.

Thank you for all the ideas.  I think I have some plexiglass in the shop and will give it a try.  After looking at the prices of of polycarbonate tubing, no wonder those jigs bags are so expensive.  Leave it to AT.com to come up with great ideas.  Bill

I have the shimano bags, best part is the mesh top and bottom so I can fresh water rinse them all when I get home.  Good idea if you can incorporate it into your design, game changer in keeping jigs tip top
The only down side is they bang around some hanging in the tubes, I try to get 2 or 3 I each slot so they can't move much

I use the mesh bags too. The only bad thing is keeping the hooks from catching

I don't need to post a bunch of pictures..!

The hooks will rust in saltwater but don't worry. Saltwater fish are attracted to WD40.  Try it sometime on your cut bait when bottom fishing.

Another thing about jigs is that the color doesn't matter. It all turns grey after 15 feet of saltwater.

A regular kitchen knife works fine. Unpainted jigs work fine.
