Title: Avet MXJ STAR drag reel
Post by: Normslanding on June 21, 2022, 11:12:20 PM
Hi all, I have not posted in a long time.
A friend told me he had a reel that was jammed up and could I take a look at it. So we met for lunch and he hands me a AVET MXJ STAR. Well He was right the handle would not turn, took it out of gear still nothing would turn.
I got it home broke it down and it is a very interesting design. The single dog is of a new design TO ME.
After looking it over I did not see anything wrong, broken, etc. so back together it went. The handle and spool turn, that's a start. When I take it out of gear it clicks and is not free. The prongs on the pinion dog (GUESSING) is rubbing. Back apart it came, I assumed there was a elevation issue keeping the pinion from completely clearing in free spool. There are nylon washers/slides above and below the pinion yoke, one of which is missing. Could that do it???? To me that might jamb something, but not cause the clearance issue. I am using verbiage from my old Penn days, I hope I made this clear.
Note: I looked around this site and on line for diagrams, tutorials for AVET star drag reels without any luck, help please.
