Title: abu garcia revo stx custom paint and rebuild
Post by: Biggameaddict on May 17, 2012, 05:47:08 AM
Hey there guys, this is my first rebuild post online. so to sum it up, i bought this revo stx on ebay for 60$ that had stripped paint but was missing a couple of parts. So i thought why not it would be a cool project and i did this. Sorry the painting was suppost to be in the pics but my phone broke and i lost my cameras charger. I know you guys like pics so its pic heavy. I cant seem to find some pics so i hope its not kind of dull.
Putting the reel back together to see whats missing.

it was a late nite and i was tired heres the thing completed
(http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa383/armofisher818/IMG_1703.jpg)
(http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa383/armofisher818/IMG_1702.jpg%5B/IMG%3Cbr%20/%3Enow%20the%20shaft%20assembly%3Cbr%20/%3E%5Bimg%20width=746%20height=1000%5Dhttp://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa383/armofisher818/IMG_1683.jpg)
first its this large copper washer
(http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa383/armofisher818/IMG_1683.jpg)
then the plastic gear for the levelwind
(http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa383/armofisher818/IMG_1687.jpg)
then that metal peice that mounts the shaft to the frame, a little copper washer, and a e clip.
the bearing for the shaft goes in here
(http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa383/armofisher818/IMG_1682.jpg)

then a washer on the right side of the wormgear with a hole in it
(http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa383/armofisher818/IMG_1727.jpg)
then the plastic gear (one side of the gear has spaces cut into it for the pin this spot faces the hole)
and the little pin that holds the gear in place
(http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa383/armofisher818/IMG_1738.jpg)
now you done with this side slide it in its place with the worm gear sheild and line guide assembly.
this little washer goes in the cap for the line guide
(http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa383/armofisher818/IMG_1710.jpg)
then the pawl goes inside the line guide
(http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa383/armofisher818/IMG_1711.jpg)

the worm gear sheild has a cut peice that goes on the side opposite the main gear
(http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa383/armofisher818/IMG_1721.jpg)
now slide on the sheild with the levelwind assembly on it
(http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa383/armofisher818/IMG_1722.jpg)
followed by the worm gear and bearing
(http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa383/armofisher818/IMG_1730.jpg)
then the plastic thing that holds everything in place
(http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa383/armofisher818/IMG_1731.jpg)
then the little copper washer
(http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa383/armofisher818/IMG_1734.jpg)
followed by the e-clip (this one has a tendency to fly, just press it in with a pair of needle nose pliers)

put on the shaft and secure it with the two screws. (you have to loosen the top screw for the clutch mechanism to slide the shaft on)
then the clutch
(http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa383/armofisher818/IMG_1745.jpg)

now to finish up the levelwind assembly slide this shaft in that the pinion gear slides on
(http://i1195.photobucket.com/albums/aa383/armofisher818/IMG_1769.jpg)

Biggammeaddict, I'm not really a fan of those reels but was impressed with your detailed tutorial. Very nice job, keep them coming. I also want to thank you for making me late for work, wow, I counted 114 pictures ;D. I believe that you'll get a well deserved  wrench from Alan. Thanks for sharing. Sal

Great work and just in time.  I recently purchased a REVO STX.  I was looking for a heavy duty drag to pull bass out of lilly pads and big grass beds.

I have become a big fan of BOCA Orange Seal ABEC 7 ceramic bearings and want to tune this reel.  I have upgraded many Shimanos and Penns.  This reel looks a bit more complicated with a large part number count.  This reel also does not provide easy access to the spool bearings like the Shimanos.

I once spent 10 hours fighting a hair thin brass washer in a Shimano Curado 200BSF unitil I figured out where it went.  It is amazing how a part so tiny can make a difference in the function of reel.

I often view YouTube videos of disassembly when available.  I found none for this reel.  I sure wish the schematics provided for modern day reels were created with modern drawing or art tools to make them useful.  A video on the manufacturers website would be helpful.

Your work here really helps those of us that work very long hours and endless days with little time to tend to our hobbies and the maintenance of our tools and toys.  Your effort and time are really appreciated.  Thank you.

Thanks again.

This quote made my day. Thanks to you actually for the kind words, im glad i could help someone do a rebuild. And this reel is not as complicated as you think, it just looks that way because i got to every specific detail of the reel and i took pictures of all the work i did too so it just look long. This reel is a beast for drag but if i were you, i would return the reel because the new revo line is coming out soon and the new stx has c6 carbon sideplates like the revo mgx has. And the shimming is incredible, they even make shims that are 1/10,000 of an inch thick and it could play big roles on the drag. Good luck on the rebuild, pm me if you get stuck.

I'm involved in a STX tear down and have ran into a stubborn spool that does not want to pop out. The spool will move about a 1/8 inch and stop. There is line on the spool but does not seem to be the issue.  :'(   Any suggestion?

The 2 Toros I did the spools easily feel out.

This is a very old post but if you check back in let us know how it turned out.

I hate a mystery  :D

It's got to be something inside the right side plate causing the spool to hang up on the pinion. Did you remove it and find your problem?
