Title: Shimano charter special TR2000 freespool problem
Post by: King on August 08, 2009, 01:50:11 PM
My TR2000 had a freespool time of almost zero so I decided to open it up. Following your instructions of disassembly, cleaning and relube, I noticed that the bare spool will freespool to around 20 seconds without the pressure plate and spool cap in place. But once they are screwd in, the bare spool will only turn for 2 seconds. Any ideas why this is so? BTW, only sticky grease were noted during disassembly.

re-assembled like that, the spool turns on three bearings, the left spool bearing, the right spool bearing and the pressure plate bearing.  if the pressure plate bearing is gummed up, it would slow down the spool.  that would be my first guess.  alan
