Title: Speedmaster Overheads

Alan, you have mentioned the Shimano Speedmasters (favourably) from time to time. One problem I have found with them is that they cast well for a few casts and then throw up a pretty big backlash. PS I am an experienced caster and other people have commented on this also. A shop assistant told me the other day he modified his by punching out a piece of leather, soaking it in oil for a few days and installing it at the end of the spool spindle (non-handle side). He says it casts smoothly now. Have you tried this sort of mod?

never tried that before.  for distance casting, the reel would probably have to be magged for the best distance.  alan
