Do you think it's possible to get this beautiful shine by just hand buffing? ...no tools.
Here are some before and after pics

and two more

Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.

sal  tell us more,  how did you do it,  reel impresive

Yes with Brasso and lots of elbow grease. Looks like my Military Brass Buckle when I was a recruit in basic.

HaHa...Can't keep much from Shark Hunter ;D. I see that Ted like to make his pics circulate.
Yest Ted (Max Doubt) did reveal his secret, here is what he uses:

He sent me a can a couple of months ago, I had no idea that the brass would clean up so nice.
I just gave it a shot on one of my bridge, the one on the right is untouched

I believe it Ted, thanks for sharing  ;).

Wow that's amazing. Thanks for sharing. I never would of thought that was possible.

Nice job Sal!!! I hate polishing with a passion. Found some stuff that works pretty good on plastic and Bakelite. Its called Novus. Kit of 3 grades, #1, #2, & #3. Works great on  side plates. Came from the auction site, about $15. for the kit. Maybe I'll get the Brasso out and a glass of wine. That will keep me quiet for a while!!!!

Alto Mare

Thanks for the tip Lou, yes a glass of wine always helps ;)

MudShark, the Nevr-Dull will also do a nice job on plates, These are Ted's, not mine:

Check out the details on these...

Hey Sal the reel in this photo is a collector's item.  It is one of a kind.  It is the only reel with a Ninja Turtle I ever saw.  ::) Dominick
Leave the gun.  Take the cannolis.

There are two things I don't like about fishing.  Getting up early in the morning and boats.  The rest of it is fun.

Just as a quick workshop tip, some of you might already know that citric acid cleans tarnished brass easily, without harming the base metal. Wipes right off in seconds. Oxalic acid does that too. Both are commonly available in retail store products-- Lemishine and similar for citric acid, and oxalic acid can be found in that rust remover stuff they sell at auto parts places.

This isn't the same as buffing or polishing of course, but it does make the initial shine-up very, very easy.

I have used the Neverdull mucho, I finish with Meguires metal polish for a super bright mirror finish that has anti-corrosive (allegedly) goodies built in. If the parts are really bad I do use dremel with polishing tips to start out.

Polishing...

A fan of it for sure, however polishing of parts is critical now for me. Externally, not so much due to plastics being used.

Some great results with hand polishing for sure guys!!!
