Hi folks ,

Wonder if anyone has any ideas for me .

I've just done a TAlica 10 2sp .

When it came in the owner said it feels rough when drag is applied .

Service found the usual culprits , pinion bearing and a couple of spool bearings replaced , couple of burs polished off the shaft and everything seemed good . But after reassembly it has good freespool , everything seems to work fine EXCEPT , as the drag is ramped up to strike and past the handle gets progressively tighter to wind . Its not catching , grinding or the like and once back in freespoll the handle winds freely .

Any ideas ?

Sounds like the pinion bearing is bad.  May have been a bad bearing in the lot.  I've had a few.

Also, when increasing the drag, I do it ever so slightly and re-test.  It is easy to damage the pinion bearing.
:D I talk with every part I send out and each reel I repair so that they perform at the top of their game. :D

Yeh , Ive had the pinion bearing back out a couple of times and it feels fine .

I thought it might be burs on the shaft , but ive de bured that to .

It has to be something to do with the pinion setup somewhere tho , because remove the pinion gears and the handle turns freely , 2spd shifts fine .

Guess I'll have to pull it apart and stare at it a bit longer , sometimes that works right ?  ::) ;D ;D ;D

If you have a spare bearing in that size try swapping out the pinion bearing. They might feel good in your hand but terrible once loaded, it happens sometimes, you get a wonky ball or the race has an imperfection or something along those lines.

It doesn't take much drag for the handle to feel tension when reeling. Especially in high gear. Try low gear and see how it is. If the spring washers are flattened out they will need changing. The spring washers will make a difference along with a good pinion bearing.
