I've recently purchase a shimano trastick online to go with my mitchell 309.
Only to find that the reel seat of the trastick is too small to fit the reel  :'(
Would you grind down the reel to fit your rod? Both are inexpensive stuff.

Ron Jones

I don't think I would grind on the 309, they haven't made those in a while. YOu should be able to pick up a comperable rod that will fit for very little money, probably your best bet. Then of course, you need to buy a small reel that will fit your Trastick! :D :D

I also vote for the option where you end up with a new rod and reel! :D

Thanks for the advise, I now feel less guilty buying another rod and reel.

Ron Jones

Anything to help! If you buy a rod and reel and something still doesn't fit, I'd say that's justification for yet ANOTHER rod and reel! ;D (you see where this is going?)

Ive never heard of a trastick model from shimano but I know that shimano uses made in house reel seats for their rods for the most part.  I always have trouble with shimano reel seats.  Try a different rod maker who uses Fuji brand reel seats and I bet you'd be fine.  Thats what I had to do with Penn Spinners.

This is one of my favorite things. Spending other peoples money.
I have not failed.  I just found 10,000 ways that won't work.

Failing to find another rod with cork handle(eva looks funny with the reel), I've shave a little bit off the rod's reel seat(rear part) to fit the thickness of the reel foot, and it works okay  ;D

Ron Jones

As long as the foot goes deep enough into the seat, that should be perfect, love that reel.
