229 and 332 - Where might I find 3.6:1 (or similar ratio) gears for these?

1) Search on Ebay, Craigslist etc.

2) Some tackle shops may have them for sale.

3) Contact known Newell folks and ask them.

4) Go to this website and/or other fishing related websites (Bloody Decks) that allow members to advertise what they want to sell/purchase.

The 200/300/400 sizes share the same gears. You'll need to know if you need a main gear for a 4-stack or 3-stack system on your 229/332.

You may have to buy a reel that already has it. In the early Newells a P332M is a 3.6 and a P332T is a 4.1

If you locate a gear somewhere out of a reel make sure you get the matching pinion. The 3.6 and 4.1 have heavy duty pinions compared to the pinion that comes in a 5 speed.

Good Luck and try Bloody Decks

Here is a 4.1 for you. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEWELL-RARE-338T-ORIGINAL-VINTAGE-CARL-W-NEWELL-FISHING-REEL-USA-MADE-USED-/141262729154?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20e3ea2fc2
