Trinidad TN16 Spool Issues?

I was replacing the braid on my TN16 and noticed what appeared to be a hairline crack or deep scratch on the inside of the spool. I acquired this reel second hand and understand that it was never spooled with mono. Rather than remove the spool for further examination I went fishing with it and so far it has not caused me any trouble.
Have these reels had issues with the spools or am I being unnecessarily over concerned?

if it's a crack it could separate under a load (read big fish) and lock up the reel.  if it's a scratch, it's not big deal.  take a good look!  alan
