Every shitmano spinner I've owned has had that slight gap and corresponding wiggle/sloppiness.  Leads to premature bail opening during a serious hookset eventually.

I don't have any reels even close to the price point of a stella, but you made me curious. I checked some of my reels and they all seem to have that gap. Were they always like that, I don't know, but never had any issues because of it. Here are just a few examples:

First pic is a shimano 4000fj, second is a penn 4500ssv, and last, the shimano baitrunner 4000d. Maybe it's just normal, but again, they're not stellas, so maybe there is something wrong with yours.
