Nice jig.  I've been meaning to make one as we sometime make 50 - 100 sets for Discover Angling.

Hey Bryan, a tip for taking kids rockfishing or other inexperienced anglers:

Use Circle Hooks on the shrimp fly/hootchie tipped with squid. The fish hook themselves and you lose less bait and get less snags.

Literally the angler has to do nothing. The rod can be in a holder or in the angler's hands, doesn't matter. And when the fish are hooked they stay hooked. Use large ones (ie 8-9/0) to get around the lip cartilage. Just wind up when the rod gets heavy.

Fish don't feel the point ever until too late so they keep biting until hooked.

Striper Lou, hate to tell you but this was around 20 years ago.  I don't remember where I got the information but I built one and used it all the time. Wink

That's a great idea. I make them for Vermillion Snapper and Grey Trigger fishing. This will make it a lot more fun..
