I came across this old thread and would like to share my findings.
I was cleaning up an old Penn Monofil No.27 reel and noticed the spool markings being 29-155.
Checking on Scott's schematics I found the part number listed below.
Part number = 29-27 for PLASTIC SPOOL
Part number = 29M-27 for METAL SPOOL
I have a spare spool with the box marked No. 29-27 for No. 27 Reel
I think the confusion arises from the "part number" being 29-27 but on the actual spool it is marked 29-155.

Great site and people here!  Sorry to rehash this one, but I'm restoring a bunch of inherited reels, including a Surfmaster 100. During the process, I chipped the plastic spool which is marked "29-155". It is definitely a narrow version (spool/bar width ~ 1-5/8").  I'd like to replace with an Al version but mystic parts only offers a ProChallenger version that is out of stock - any suggestions?  thanks in advance, Keith

Numbers on spool flanges do not correspond to the actual part numbers. My thought is that they are mold code numbers that the factory refers to for identifacation. For instance a 112 on a spool does not fit a 112 or 112H, it is an aluminum spool for a Sea Boy but will also fit a Longbeach 65. Go figure?   ??? ???        Rudy
