Penn Torque Spinning Reel

Just picked up a Penn Torque Spinning reel the 9000 size could not resist the sale. Local tackle shop going out of business and all equipment 40% off. Has anyone ever used the reel?

Thanks guys. I have read the tutorials and Alan Hawks review. The internals and its simplicity sold me.  Searched the internet trying to find comments of someone who has fished the reels to see how they hold up.

The only problem with them holding up is from one guy that stripped the gears...On further investigation it turns out he was water skiing Jack crevalle with the reel, about the worst abuse of a spinning reel I have ever heard lol.

They are water tight, just don't submerge them too deep. If you don't need uber water tight remove the rotor seal and it frees up the reel a lot.

Thanks that makes me feel better about spending all the money on reel. It's one of those reels you probably don't need but just have to have.

I have one but have yet to put anything of size to really test it out. Only small AJ's in the 20-30lb range. I'm using the smaller one, the Penn 5. Let me talk to someone i know that went on the Yankee Boat Trip with us here in Key West. We went to Pully ridge, not for deep dropping but a lite trip in the 300ft 500ft zone on the banks no electric reels. He had 2 torque 5. He was fight a fish and needed more drag but turning knob to tighten the drag result was it was spinning. I believe he was bring up a queen snapper which fights all the way to the top. I helped him change the drag knob from one to the other. Never got around to ask what happened and forgot about it but i dont think it was anything major.

These are queen snappers....not me. That's a fishing bud. His queen snappers was worth putting up...

I fish a torque 9 and it works great, snappers, AJs, King macs and no issues. Caught several false albacores today.

Thanks..... This was my most expensive reel purchase..... I wanted something that would last and I could pass on to my 2 1/2 yr grandson when he gets older.
