First beginner question, and definitely not my last one.

This is for a Shimano TLD 20/40 star.

Is there some trick to removing Key Washer F  number 0093?  It slides freely up the drive shaft but then hangs up just before the last cut out section on the shaft.  At that position, it wiggles but does not seem to want to go 'north' of that point.

I appreciate your help.

you'll need to file it flat!  when you bolt on the handle, it sits on the shoulder of the drive shaft and forms a small burr.  it's that burr that is catching the metal drag washer.  you form a similar burr on the drive shafts of the calcuttas and many of the other smaller reels.  you've probably also noticed that it can be very difficult to remove the main gear.  when this same drag washer rotates against the drive shaft near the base, it digs in.  these divots also need to be filed flat.

i'm at work right now.  i'll try to get you some photos later.

Great all round reel that!   Your problem; as the Boss said, it happens to many reels in that way.
