Hello,

Figured I'd start a reference thread for those members interested in trying their hand at shore and ulua fishing in Hawaii.
Like anywhere else, the fishing here can either be as leisurely--or demanding and dangerous--as is your wont; but for the latter, I feel it helps to have a source of credible and published info covering safe techniques--info upon which a newbie can refer back to. The following list is just a start and best considered on-going--should anyone wish to add a source they have found to be helpful and sound, in regards to Hawaii shore fishing.

1. Fishing Hawaii Style by Jim Rizzuto, Volumes 1, 2, and 3.

2. Fishing the Reefs by Peter Dunn-Rankin

3. Pacific Shore Fishing by Mike Sakamoto

4. Hawaii Presents: 101 Fishing Tips by Mike Sakamoto

5. How to Hook and Cookbook by Mike Sakamoto, Volumes 1 and 2.

6. Hawaii Fishing New's publication website: http://www.hawaiifishingnews.com/home.cfm?CFID=33151599&CFTOKEN=38810237

7. Shore Fishing in Hawaii (DVD's), Volume 1--Baitcasting Basics, Volume 2--Simple Shorecasting:

When I think of fishing for Trevally species, I automatically think of lures and particularly large poppers or surface plugs.
It seems from the links above and from some "Googling" I just did that most of them are caught on bait in Hawaii, Is that correct?

Probably mostly on bait but there is trolling and plugging too.  I think it was Hawaii Fishing Forums that had a long series on throwing poppers.
