In preparation for the SoA trip in 3 weeks, I did a little prefishing in the GoM. Actually, I've done a LOT of prefishing.
Yesterday, 5/31, on the last day of Amberjack season, I landed my biggest ever. Don't know the weight, but my 50# digital scale maxed out with his tail still on the ground. Penn International 16vsx and a fairly cheapo fiberglass rod. Yes, I cheated and used the rail....and 2nd gear! Hope the pic posts correctly.

Here on the left coast we don't consider using the rail cheating. Chasing a fish with the boat is another thing. Congrats on a great fish!
