Penn 146 Squidder or 100 Surfmaster swapping Newell C220-5 spool

Hi All,

I have a Newell C220-5 which, to be blunt, I dislike a lot.  I hate the loud anti reverse, the spool seat is too narrow to sit properly on the butt of my surf rod and I'm turned off by the whole plasticky appearance of it.  I know there will be thousands of you out there who love them, of course.

I do like the spool however.  Will this fit a 146 Squidder or 100 Surfmaster?

I'm UK based, so it can be difficult to get one's hands on an older Penn.

Interested to hear your opinions!

I have never tried to fit the spool in a squidder.  Sorry.  Seems like a great idea though.

Hi Mike,

It won't fit. The Squidder and Surfmaster spools are a larger diameter than the Newell spool.
