I have a 40SHA

Tim, do you know if the internals on the 40SHA fits on the 30 sized kit?

this looks really good

No Steelfish they will not fit.

Thank you SoCal for your input...I'm excited about this reel build...Bryan built one an Alan brought it on the SOA charter this June then Warren talked me into using it and I caught 2 Yellowtail on it before thrashing the gears, before all of that I saw your post about your reel...Long story short I blame you all for being nearly $200.00 lighter in the wallet   ;D

BT

Hey, hey, hey. That was a gift for Alan to fish and he has yet to fish that reel. He's got new gears now.  Let him catch one fish with it.

Hahaha
:D I talk with every part I send out and each reel I repair so that they perform at the top of their game. :D

The 40 is a narrow 50 so, no it won't fit. I guess if you get a 50 spool you could put one together. Taller sized reel. Been kind of waiting for a 40 size frame to come out also, seems like the perfect medium sized reel. The 30 is a wide 20 what I'd call a small. I'm not sure now after thinking about it. You would at the very least have to get a spool. We all know that 200, 300, 400 series newells share the same internals, that said it may share components.

Nice mod.

I caught many a mackerel off the Broome Jetty with a 30 SLOSH way back when. Beautiful smooth drag on these reels.

But that damn vertical gearbox is a real PITA especially on a trigger winch reel seat. Why oh why did they not angle it forward?

Hey looks very strong, seems affordable?  Where did you get the angled rubberlike grip?  Looks like a great handle?  Catch us some more fish pictures.      gst.

SoCalAngler

gst,

I guess your talking about the grip on the reel I showed. This handle arm (longer than stock) and grip is a one piece swap out from Tiburon Manufacturing. Tiburon makes many frame and handle mods for reels and if you have not checked out their website you may want to take a look. They use to make reels also but now I only think they still make the 50 sized Smartshift reels. Okuma hired Tiburn to design their Makaira line of reels also.

For those of you patiently waiting for Tims build, well, you're going to have to wait a little longer. For some unknown reason the reels are coming back to me as undeliverable. We will get to the bottom of this. As soon as I get them I will immediately send them back out. Sorry for the delay. USPS.

thanks amigo,
your righ, 20 and 30 are small and I already have some reels on that size, and 50 its kind of big, I will wait a bit more to see if the 40 sized frame cames out or mabye later get the 50 frame and a new spool, not in a hurry

I saw the reel Bryan built for Alan, and it is indeed sweet. I might have to get a kit on the 30 I have.

Oh bummer....Well, as long as it makes it back safely, it's all good.

Too bad the Slosh kits are no longer available.   I have to wonder... could another manufacturer buy up the digital data and setups (whatever else is needed - I have no clue)  for a discontinued reel frame, and start to produce it again?  Seems like a potential win/win for customers and the manufacturers.

STRIPER LOU

I have several completed and they are one sweet reel!

A while back he sold the kits for the 20 with a clamp for $59.00. I couldn't believe the price and bought several. I'm only sorry I didn't buy more.
Its a very popular reel at the shop.

Lou I got his last 6 kits. 3 regular Slosh and 3 of Slosh SHA. They are all gone as complete reels except for one.

Good deal Keith! I bought 5 at the regular price (ugh!) and 5 at the sale price. You must have gotten the last ones that I missed?

The guys really like those up here. I kept 2 for myself and the rest are gone. Its a nice rigid setup to boot!

The problem is not could another manufacture make these kits, the issue is could they make a profit selling them. Breaking even means you are loosing money.

If you go back and read the comments regarding these kits, I have one from 2013 on the Diawa board and at that time I had seen these kits sold for years before posting my question. Also, if you look through that board you will see others as well as myself that did the upgrade. I tweeked my reel a couple of times before I got the reel the way I wanted but others dialed theirs right off the bat.

What it really boils down to is the cost of material, the man hours and machine time/tool cost to make these frames and still sell them at a price people are willing buy them while still making a profit for your effort. It's sad to say this was not worth it to the company selling them but reels have progressed light years since around maybe 2008-2010 when these kits first became available. Most people will buy a new reel rather than put in a cost of around three quarters of that price to upgrade a old reel.

Personally I'm the boat of those buying a newer reel that preforms better than upgrading a older reel and paying about the two thirds cost of a new reel just for the upgrade. I know that may be blasphemy here on this site and yes I do upgrades also. But, if you read through the old posts I said if I was so to it all over again I'd buy a new reel.

The Slosh reels have been replaced a couple of times already by Diawa with newer versions and I'm sure for many it makes more sense to buy a newer reel. For a company to make money there must be a high enough demand to offset costs and I just don't see it with these kits anymore.

You might ask Randy if he'd be interested in getting tiburon to make a limited run for members here. He's been pulling quite a few rabbits out of his hat lately with them. Could happen if there's enough interest.
