You got excellent dates.

The Westport bar can be rough but it is nothing compared to the CR.  The last time I crossed the Westport bar was when we stopped for fuel when transporting the Northern from Ballard to Ilwaco, a "trip from hell" due to very bad ocean conditions and bilge pump issues.  The USCG was escorting the Westport charter boats back in when we left the port, we should have spent the day on the dock.

Every weekend mornings I try to listen to the San Diego radio show Let's Talk Hookup. I use the TuneIn app so I can pause it then fast forward through the commercials. Last Saturday they had on one of the Everinghams who run the San Diego bait barges. Fascinating!

Finally, I learned what 'cured' baid means. And, Westport has got some of the best!

Hi Todd, going purely by memory...

You and your 2 buddies, Greg(Island Gypsy) from Oregon, TwoTone(Anthony) from Chicago, Steve(Swill) from Cali.....and still 3 SPOTS LEFT TO GRAB

I also reserved trip on same boat for early August and still have plenty of spots on that trip if any members are interested in albacore mayhem

Westport gets tuna in June, so early August is normally just as good as late August

Some Westport albacore charters start doing trips in mid July. Our captain starts fishing them in early August knowing there's high percentage of success

For live bait fishing we use 30# mono, and any reel similar in size to a 501 works great. 25 years ago every boat in the fleet used long beach 60 or 65. Nowadays they all have Avet or shimano LD reels, but I could easily keep up with those modern reels when I'm using an old school conventional Penn reel.

That's too bad. Hopefully a few more AT members want to come join the fun. It would be great to meet a few members and chase some long fins!!

There are still 3 spots remaining on this prime time albacore charter.  Eventually the charter office will fill those spots....we would much rather have forum members fill those spots

  Please send pm if interested

Getting close to deposit time! I hope a few more members can make this trip .............. good chance to catch some great eating fish that fight well .......... and have some fun. Not that far for any members living in the North West US or BC; has to be some Northern Cali guys willing to make the drive. Looking forward to meeting Maxed out.

10 people per trip is what this boat takes...

...and on average 70-140 albacore come over the rail. Average around 20-25# each
