:D I talk with every part I send out and each reel I repair so that they perform at the top of their game. :D

Thx, Bryan...I got the info from Purefishing. This numbering system went into effect after year 1999, for the round type reels, 4500-10,000, and a little earlier for the spin, and other reels, like the BM, Morrum, etc.

Okay, what if your reels only have the 6 digit codes does anyone have a resource for that please?

Mo.
I loved my slosh's until that dammed Avet turned up!

Could be a variety of different "translations", use the numbers in conjunction with other telltales do determine the age.

Usually (but not always):

6 figure numbers Late 1950s to 1960s, numbers running from 1xxxxxx to 9xxxxxx. Found in early Ambassadeur 5000 and 6000 (ribbed sideplates), Smooth foot.
6 figure numbers Late 60s / early 70s. Middle two digits indicating year. ie xx08xx - 1968, Smooth foot.
1970s 6 figure numbers, first 2 or middle 2 numbers as read ie 71xxxx or xx71xx - 1971, Checkered foot.
1980s Same as 70s but usually first 2 digits ie 82xxxx - 1982, Checkered foot.
Late 90s 6 figures, usually the last digit. i.e. 060006 or 040006 refers to a reel made in 1996, Checkered foot.

The above taken from RealsReels.
Something like 40 BCs, mostly ABU. Still counting upwards...

Seems that the frame codes have been revised again.
Recently acquired a 5501CS Pro Rocket in purple and the frame code had me mystified.
00H11SE
Doesn't look anything like the frame codes on my other reels.
Contacted ABU and they kindly revealed how to interpret the code.
00 = revision, change
H = month (A-L), in my case August
11 = production year 2011
SE = Swedish made

Also possible for custom reels are two additional letters/numbers, possibly within brackets after the regular frame code.
Something like 40 BCs, mostly ABU. Still counting upwards...

Kewl, Mooki... Nice to know you are in a place and position to source info on our behalf.

I have a red 5000, smooth foot, ribbed end plates, marked 85747... Any guesses to year of manufacture ?   Thanks, Tim

I'd better start off with saying that I'm not at all savvy about older Ambassadeurs, so don't trust me on this  ;)
My totally wild guess would be 1969 if it's a 5000C, 1959/60 if it's just 5000.
Smooth foot and ribbed side plates support the above, but don't help distinguish between...
Is it a 3 or 4 screw model (side plate screws)? They (ABU) changed from 4 to 3 screws during 1967/68.
If it's 4 screws I'd go with the 5000 from 1959/60, if you have 3 screws I'd guess it's a 5000C from 1969.
Something like 40 BCs, mostly ABU. Still counting upwards...

The more I read these code explanations, the more confused I get.  Ebay blessed me with a N.I.B. 5000C with ribbed sideplates.  Its reel foot number is 850100.  Its schematic is marked 84-0.  The box is silver and black, oil tube white and blue and its paperwork gives no mention of Pure Fishing Inc.  The box has a Walmart price sticker of 29.95 but the ribbed sideplates make me think it would be older than I knew Walmart to be around.   It has a counter balanced handle with a round knob and Ive never seen this combo together before but it looks like a factory handle.  It may just be a franken-reel and mis-matched box but its in primo condition other than ancient grease and oil less.  Can anybody help me decipher the reel foot number? Thanks ....

Sorry to revive an old one, but I am a little confused over the +10yrs bit.
My rockets have 01 05 12 25 and 01 05 12 38 stamped on the foot, I believe the 25 and 38 relate to the colour of the side plates (originally one blue, one silver, now both blue).
As I say its the +10 thats confusing me so could someone clarify for me please?

Thanks

 oops, fail. Will re-try. The sideplates do not figure in, as you'd suspected.  As per successful post below.
They used 1997 as an example, but in reality, the 17 showing would be 2007, as the 10 column has the 1 in it, for an auto-add of 10 to the 7 = 2007.
