If price is reasonable I would love same box for my 20/0 and I'm certain a few more will jump on the bandwagon

No doubt it will be a high quality box cause that's all Mark makes

The case will cost me around $200 plus shipping. I well within my budget.

The quarter sawn African mahogany wood is in the shop and will be planed and drum sanded to the correct thickness tomorrow. After that it is off to the table saw. I'll post updates as progress continues.

Mr. Mayo.
Is there a way you can make one that opens with the reel mounted inside?
So that the front can open and fold back to reveal the reel.
The reel can be mounted on the bottom to prevent movement.
Me and Mike were just talking about this.
Just an Idea,

If the hasps are close to the middle of below the reel will be revealed as the top is opened. I suggested to Mike an inexpensive reel seat attached to the bottom where the reel could be fixed. My worry is that without a reel in house that it might hang up when the top is opened if the cut is in the wrong place. The height of the case would need to be adjusted higher to account for the reel seat height.  It should be secure though.  A question is how to turn the ring on the reel seat deep within the box.

Hmmmmmmm. I'm thinking about it.  I'll query Mike as it is his reel and case.

Thanks for your input!

I can send a used Varmac RS6H reel seat for test fitment if needed.

I want the case for protection not display. Thick rubber at the bottom cut out for the upper reel clamp should do. Or I can take a sheet of delrin. Then screw it to the reel and set it down in the case so it won't move. The bottom of
the reel clamp I can store in a bag. Without the bottom of the reel clamp the reel sits flat. Now if the case opens in the front thats would even be better. I can make the mount myself at home.

Ok top normal with flip down front.  Stainless steel piano hinge at the bottom with 1.5"-2" of solid on the bottom front.

The work continues...

Parts cut

Dry fit of parts

Finger joints cut and dry fit

Handle cut and drum sanded

Case glued up, flush routed and sanded for the first time. The handle has also been routed and sanded.

The box rests with plenty of clamps.

Watching these reels come into existence was cool...and now the box is off the charts too. I love this craftsmanship. Great work Mr. Mayo! 8)
