Thoughts on the bait cannon?

We have been using a drone of late to fly our baits out while shark fishing.

Pro:

It's lightweight and easy to transport. You can use your phone to keep track of how far it goes. In theory, you can use the measuring tool on Google Earth to measure the distance to a fishy looking reef, and then drop your bait right on top of it with the drone.

Con:

Some days the drone just doesn't want to start back up after a drop or two. There is also the risk of losing it.  The one we are using lost control once and went for a swim in the ocean. Luckily it happened close enough that we could wade out and retrieve it. Surprisingly it still works to this day despite taking a saltwater bath.

I don't believe this is a particularly expensive drone, so higher end ones might be less finicky.

gonna' wait for drone subs...  really little ones
not just bait delivery, or even lures/teasers, but HARASSERS!!!  :O
swim into their mouth, whether they want to eat, or not  ;D

A bloke over here took a drone down the South coast last week, he tried to get it to take his rig out with two fish baits on it, as it had to go into the wind, it was very slow going, finnished up with about 20 sea gulls trying to pinch the bait in flight, he almost lost it into the ocean, may be good with a tail wind, cheers Don. there not cheep to buy.
Don, or donnyboat

Funny!  Imagine when the seagulls start figuring out that Amazon drones are carrying groceries...  They'll need escort drones to fend off the birds  ;D

Have used Co2 cannons (need steel barrel, etc since the pressures are so high) to send out anchors.  Can't send out bait at the same time as the velocity demolishes it.  Have been able to send out 2 pound anchors about 400 yards, maybe more.  Slide the bait down after the anchor is set.  Gave it up.  Too much of a hassle to unwind the line from the reel and then wind it on to a 5 gallon bucket (to act like a giant spinning reel) or facsimile.
Graduated to kites but can only use where conditions allow.  Big problem:  Kites crash.
Graduated to drones.  Big problem:  Drones crash.  Drone expensive.  Every person that I know who has used a drone has lost at least one (myself included).  Drone cannot carry heavy payloads, unless the drone is a lifting drone that costs several thousands.  Kites can carry many pounds easily.  Drones can fly where kites cannot (I.E., upwind).  Kites can fly when drones cannot (when the wind is too strong).
The search for the "ultimate" line carrier continues (some people argue it's called a boat).
I used to be in a constant state of improvement.  Now I'm in a constant state of renovation.

Well said; drop the mic!

I really LOVE this !

Terrific distance and a real "deterrent" to Swimmers and Surfers, who might want to enter my "space" !

Tight Lines !

My cousin is in the testing phase with his homemade cannon. I'll see if I can get a clip of it and post it up.

Friend of mine while on leave years ago was locked up over night for doing this. I believe in Seattle. His nickname was Hawk he not only looked like a hawk all he would talk about was his Falcons & Redtail Hawks.
He was late returning to base. Command evidently laughed about it & he received a slap on the hand & told very sternly " Never Again !"

Drones have been used to carry out baits for years. If they can can carry multiple thermobaric grenades in Ukraine, they can carry a bait wherever you are!

There are & have been drones that can lift & carry a truck or car if u wish to use it for bait & have the money. Ammo & water is being delivered on the battle field. Anything that flies can B a drone.

Meaning it is simply controlled from outside the cockpit & is unmanned... Jeff

Quote from: FatTuna on December 13, 2018, 06:47:52 AMWow, I just looked it up, some of those drones can carry some real weight. I thought they could only carry a few ounces.

I used to make potato guns all the time as a kid. That was part of the reason I enjoyed this video, brought back some memories.

Ask the Russian's in Ukraine how much weights a little drone can lift.

I use to make potato guns as a kid too. Till my buddy over charged one and lost two fingers.

Pretty cool though, must come with a hell of a legal injury waiver!  :o
Buy it nice or buy it twice.
