I just cleaned, lubed and put in greased cf drags in my friends 700. Did the same to my 250s and 400s no problems. This 700 is killing me. Everything works fine until I start putting some drag pressure on and the clutch button won't depress at that point. Looking at the schematic best I can tell everything is together correctly but apparently I am wrong somewhere. I have the beveled side of the yoke facing down and the sprocket under the gear Looks like I have the teeth oriented in the right direction but I have tried it both ways with no change. Any help from the experts would be greatly appreciated.

yeah, it's a bad kick lever.  it's common with this reel.  parts are no longer available.   :-\

Say it ain't so. I am humbled my first post for help is responded by the expert himself and am sure you are correct. Looking at the schematic I don't see a kick lever. Can you please tell me another name as I am curious to see what derailed me. Anybody out there got one in a drawer perhaps?

Wow Alan you are awesome. I figured it was that clutch pawl. My friend is gonna be so happy. That is his favorite reel.

Thanks for being so quick and gracious with that part Alan. You are tops.

alantani

have you had a chance to service it?

Not yet. I am a CPA and corp tax deadline is Friday. Hope to work on the reel Saturday. Will report back after I am done.

Well I put the lever in that Alan sent me. I used a magnifying glass to compare them and really didn't see a difference. Buttoned it back up and push the button for freespool and let out line working fine. Reel some in do it again no problem. Fourth try button won't go in for freespool. Opened it up a few times looking for problems don't see any. But same results works a few times and then stops working. I would pull my hair out but I don't have any left to pull. Can the brain trust here think of anything else?

Yes do you want pictures or do you want me to ship the reel?

Got It !!! I had a bright light on it so my wife could take pictures and the problem stood out plain as day. The lever wasn't sitting down far enough on the post and it was riding up out of the channel in the plastic plate after a few engagements. I pushed the post up from the bottom and pushed everything down good and got circlip on in its channel. First time it was just squeezing the post above the channel that it snaps in. Rookie mistake. What a relief though. Didn't want to surrender on this one. Thanks Alan

alantani

just glad it's working!!!!!  did you end up replacing the kick lever?  if so, toss the old one.  if not, can you send it back?  thanks!  alan

Yes I replaced it. Definitely was bad because soon as I replaced it the reel worked fine until the lever slid out of the channel after a few freespool engagements. Whew learned a lot on this one Thanks.
