I got this reel in the post yesterday. i bought this reel new 34 years ago I left it at my parents house a few years later and forgot what happened to it. I thought I must have sold it. I came across it at my brothers house recently and it was not working. The bail was frozen and it needs a new pinion bearing. It is a sad sight. Now I have some work to do. Greg

Thanks Tommy. I like the anti reverse on this one ,compared to my 330 and 280 etc. Its just like a Cardinal. 34 years ago I bought it because I was impressed with the drag. cheers Greg

Hi Frank I got a lot of fine sand and dirt out of the reel and got the bail working again I like the anti reverse pawl working on the pinion. surprised to see the bearing is smaller than the 330 bearing. I have a new bearing on order. All should be good then. cheers Greg

Good recovery work Greg, those D.A.M. look like they will last forever in the right hands.

Nice reel Greg! it landed in good hands, I'm sure it will be better than even when you get done with it.

Thanks guys for the kind remarks. I have cleaned up the drag a bit, which are about 2mm thick felt washers, but I will cut some carbontex for it. Greg

Greg, this is a Freaking Fantastic reel !!
I to have been looking for one. I have two 5001's they will remain with me & be fished until my dying day. Dont let the smaller bearing in the 3001 bother you one bit. It is just fine. It just goes to show how over built the earlier models were. The anti reverse as you've noticed is very stout & as bullet proof as any other design I've seen in a spinner... Jeff

Thanks Don, Jeff and Frank for the replies. Can't wait until that bearing arrives now. Look after those 5001 reels Jeff. Greg
