I have a blue, Swedish made, 6500C4, checkered reel foot numbered  070112  06, purchased about 10 years ago

Does that date code tell us it was made in 2006 or 2007?

Did Abu ever switch over to carbon fiber drag washers from the factory? If so when?

Dunno. Never paid all too much attention to the numbers, to be honest. There are a number of threads and decipher keys on this and other forums. Seek and you shall find.

Yes. Around 2005, 2006 sometime.

The usual ways of deciphering ABU date codes would not apply to that one.  It's currently YYMM followed by the number of revisions.  Having twelve revisions seems awfully high and the 06 at the end is just weird.  The consensus among the experts seems to be that the system is all messed up.  I think ABU just doesn't want people to be able to date their reels.
