advice on fishing trips, early Sept. near Huntington Beach

Ouch on the trip, sorry to hear the catch rates. I hope you got yours.

To be honest I thought this may happen. The Tbird usually fishes around San Clemente Island but the fishing sucks there this year. Not to say they don't know how to catch tuna. I have landed many on the old boat and the new one is nicer. Jeff made the right call to make that run south as really nothing is happening up here. But, the bite in that area more south of the line has been a morning thing.

If the boat stayed up here the catch numbers would of been about the same but you would of had to substitute tuna for IMO not much.

Yeah, I think it was 11 tuna for 37 anglers, I wasn't one of them.

It was a lot of riding and very little fishing.

Next time maybe.
