After years of bent fingernails and frustration I thought of a better way. Make a tool!  The problem comes up when depressing the spring to insert a pin, the second pin. The spring must be pushed down and then the pin keeps the spring tension. If I had three arms it might work. The photos show a smooth handle and a brass tube with matching cutouts for the pin. Align the cutouts with the holes in the shaft, push and insert the pin. It works to remove or install the pin.

The wood is red zebrawood.

I hope this helps those of you servicing big Avet reels.

Great idea Mark!  And beautiful execution!
A lot of us here could make our own, but none would be as pretty as yours!

Great tool to save our fingers.  How many times have my fingers slipped and sometimes the spring goes zing in the air.
:D I talk with every part I send out and each reel I repair so that they perform at the top of their game. :D
