I got a reel spooled today with the new Shimano Ocea 8 braid. Not to be confused with the previous generation Ocea X8.

The breaking strain to diameter is ridiculous. I spooled the reel with PE4, which is rated at a fairly insane 73lb breaking strain. The stated diameter is 0.280mm, which, for reference sake, is the same as Daiwa's J-Braid 8X in 30lb. It is worth noting that the Daiwa stuff breaks at WAY over the rated strength, but still.

We got bang on 400m of the stuff onto a 10000-size spinning reel with room for a leader.

It has a coating, and is quite stiff out of the box. It will be interesting to see how it goes after being fished a few times. I can virtually guarantee, based on the previous generation, that it will cut you like a sharp knife given half a chance, seriously, it is like a blade. It is also fairly expensive, at roughly $100 for a 400m spool.
