Bakelite side plates

Guys,

Do you know when Penn stopped producing the Bakelite side plates?  Were they used on all models?  I see the new plastic is called Poly, what is that short for?

In this case, it is probably short for polymer which is any plastic or resin.  But, bakelite is a polymer too.

I'd like to know what year they switched too.  And, did it coincide with moving production overseas?  I wasn't paying much attention to Penn in those years.
