I am having trouble with the antireverse dog on the silent cranking Mitchell 300/300A reels from the late 1980s to early 1990s (Browning takeover from Garcia; the earlier models were still French made and the later Taiwanese made). I get them working on the bench but get out in the "reel" world, and they fail. The reel will reverse without "switching off" the antireverse dog. Is there some trick to reinstalling these or adjusting them? Any suggestions (other than use the older Garcia Mitchells because they're better, ha ha!) assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Completely clean out the roller bearing and collar of all grease and grime, then very lightly coat with a light oil. If it still fails, replace them. Most likely it will fix it unless the reel's been pulling some big ones for a while and the parts are just worn out.
