Hi Justin,

Welcome.

Remove that pawl. I do it as a matter of routine. They serve no real purpose on this model of reel. The anti reverse bearing is more than adequate for the amount of drag produced (10-12 pounds).

Makes the reel smoother and less likely to break down.

Shimano Oz stopped carrying the AR pawls for these baitcasters a few years ago, told us they can't supply and said to rip 'em out  :-\
Specialist Daiwa reel service, including Magseal.

I found that a spot of grease and pinching the pawl arms closer together so they hold tighter to the gear actually eliminated the problem. I have 3 more of these for personal use that I'll just remove from now on. You guys are appreciated. Cheers!
