Spool No How

Here's one for for the ages..... I want a lighter spool for my 506.  I have a Penn 506L on it and would love a Newell for it.  I have never seen or heard of a Newell spool for a 506.

My question for the local gurus'..... Can I press the SS spool axel out of the Penn 506L and press it into a Newell 501 spool?

The Newells' are a tad bit lighter than the Penn spools, They have vanes cast in for a overrun deterrent and the end bells are prettier too so that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
