I noticed the handle looked off kilter on my BG2500, so I unscrewed the handle and the point where it attaches is bent. I'm not 1000% sure what I'm looking at as ive never cracked this one open (that's about to change!) But the part with the Philips head in the 2nd picture is off center. I may have dropped the reel and not realized it, or something similar, ir it may have always been like this and I'm only now noticing. Is it the main gear itself that's bent or is that some separate piece? I Can't tell from the parts diagram. The Philips head gives me hope its a separate piece.

guessing bent handle shaft...  have read that about new BG's: some complaints that
spool & handle shafts are BOTH thinner than they should be...  at least, in some reel-sizes
maybe, find a compatible handle from higher model & hope it's better steel
(or shorter handle arm, so there's less leverage to bend the shaft)

Need better pictures , and some of the handle side .       They don`t list a part number for #66 !!!   ???

That is the handle side!
It's listed with #45 (the pinion) apparently sold as a set.

Was worried about you for a sec there. I guess that's what you meant. I will take one when I get home.

Daiwa says $24 shipped for a replacement. Gonna take it apart and verify one is needed before i order anything.

The handle side. No visible bend

:)  Ok that rules out cross thread  and over torqued handle . I don`t see any pulled threads there ..
Whats with the Phillips screw looking thing in the gear ?  I would be surprised that it bent there ,or is the screw counter sunk in soft brass insert ?

Cross threaded or one thread "out" when fitting?  Hard to see from photo, but does the start of the thread look flattened?

It's this (it's a gif but it seems you gotta click it)

It is strange that it bent there .    You would think that the bearing and the handle drive nut would have enough support there .

Almost seems like either something is bent, not seated properly, or a bearing failure.

have you opened it yet?
is it an alloy main with steel/brass tube as "axle"?
may have sheared/deformed at that attachment point
and the axle is no longer at perfect 90* to the plane of the gear

Sure looks like the shaft was pressed into the main gear out of kilter, but you would have thought it would have been obvious to anyone paying attention on the assembly line? ???
Then again, if it were that far out it would be binding something awful in the bearing on that side, so maybe it must be bent outboard of the bearing.
