Newly acquired used reel. Works great and has great drag and gearing. Does bail flip closed when open and you crank first time? Is My reel stuck or just is it manual only. If it is suppose to flip over, what could be issue?  Thanks

I remove the part that makes it flip in my reels. Its possible the previous owner of yours did the same. You lose less lures on casting that way.
Any machine is a smoke machine if you use it wrong enough.

Find a schematic and check if it has the ramp thing on the front face of the body, under the rotor. It's possible someone has removed it, although 8000 is around the size that Shimano seems to move to manual bails on a lot of reels, rotor brake only.

the reel has no friction ring.

Recommend to replace the bushings on the main gear with bearings.

Looked at you tube videos on shimano saragossa. Got to bail strike part# 10695. Loose&Worn. Built it up from bottom and tightened. Works great. Also reel was gritty and cleaned it all up! Can't wait to use it.
