I beach comb(scavenge). Amongst the flotsam and jetsam, I find tackle, net floats/sections, surfing, scuba and snorkel stuff, etc, etc.
This looks like 40lb. mono, 3-strands braided together, then an interesting knot, and then one strand emerges from the knot.
Any ideas?
Bonus: surf's been up on the South-side. These are just bogie-board and body surfers, but they are having a blast and the weather's been great.
Fishing tackle is an art form and all fish caught on the right tackle are"Gfish"!

I don't know the knot, but they used to make lines like that on the old skipjack  tuna boats for jack pole fishing.

Kinda hard to say but looks like maybe a plaited double (alternative to a bimini) that has unravelled a bunch? Wraps at the top don't look like it though.
