Ordered envelopes and cardboard bins from U-Line —-

Dug out over 21 full bins of ABU/Cardinal/Garcia parts.

Replacing the old envelopes and bags with new ones —- and clearly marked with a part number.

Seems like a lot of work —- but one of the many side-benefits is putting my eyes and hands on every part —- so I have an idea of what is here.

Pouring again today —- might have to take off at any time if my sister-in-law up in Merced gets flooded due to Bear Creek overflowing it's banks or blowing out a side bank berm.

We seem to be OK here —- just a massive amount of water, and the ground is saturated.

First of (3) storms just rolled in early this morning —- we have picked up a hair over 2" so far.

Got the tunes on and about ready for dinner and a movie with Sue.

Good progress and learning along the way today.

Hope there ain't too much run-off damage. Think of the aquifer recharge factor. All at once seems always to be the way nowadays...

Yeah, just hoping and praying for the best, Greg —-

Someday, I will tell the tale of the local Great Flood (Noah's Ark Time) —- as told me by one of the Elders of the Mono Tribe in our area.  The language of the Mono was only oral, and Galen Lee passed on a few years ago.  There are only a few who are left than can interpret the history of the Ancient Mono's.  Galen was one.  His story is absolutely riveting.  Fortunately, he wrote a book about it.  When I met him —- he gave me a lot more details and explained how he found proof.

—-—————-

You are right, Harry —-

There are only a couple of dozen on our site who understand or even have a grasp on what these parts represent —- and maybe a few hundred worldwide.

I am not even sure I can grasp the quality and precision of these new old stock parts —- it is absolutely amazing.

Making good progress.

Hopefully, some members will need a part or two from time to time.

And these will be good for my repairs and service on ABU/Zebco Cardinals.

If not, no big deal —- I will get rid of them as a large lot to a dealer.

At least they will be organized, numbered, boxed, and in order.

Keep on keepin' on, Fred, you're getting there! The few parts I have are numbered like yours, but also named and the reel(s) they fit identified. I found adding the part name & reel application helps me find the right part a lot quicker.

That is a good way to do it Tom —-

But with this many parts —- it's probably never going to happen.

Just a part number in an intact envelope, and in order.

My factory shop manuals will ID the number needed for a particular reel.

And there are many ABU parts here besides traditional Cardinal parts.  Baitcasters, push button spinners, rear drag, front drag, fulcrum drag, and much more to be discovered.

Just doing the small parts now where there are 10 to 25 parts in each envelope.  After that I'll start on sideplates, gears, spools, handles, frames, rotors, etc..

Represented are ABU, ZEBCO, Garcia —- which kind of shows the progression and merging of the companies over the years.

Fred I was getting ready to ask if there were any ambassadeur parts in there. I may want some stuff.

Sometimes I envy your collection. Then i remember the work required to organize it all, and I'm just glad someone like yourself has it.

Still slogging away at my ABU organizing chores —-

Doing the hard part first —- small parts.  5 cases completed, 3 to go.

Then 12 cases of large parts, plus 3 cases of complete reels.

Spools, cranks, frames, bails, rotors, sideplates, etc..

Snowing now, we have 6" on the ground —- more coming in overnight, 32 degrees at 4:48 PM.  Wind at "0".  It was up to 25 mph overnight.

Those Card 6/7 bail arms are a good find, especially since they have the metal reinforcement. You don't seem many of them anymore. The other side (bail plate) are tough to find, too. They have a notch for the nylon trip that has a tendency to break every now & then.

Thinking of all you folks who are battling tough weather.  A little ice here in MN today (Mon.) but no sweat so far.  Maybe a bit of snow to add to the @ 15 inches left on the ground out of the 20 or so we had last week.  Temps mostly in the 20s and, thankfully, well above zero (knock on wood).

Are these the other side bail-mounts you were referring to, Tom?

Yep. The metal ones are for the SS salt water setup option.

After 4 days of working on this pile of ABU-Garcia-Cardinal parts —-

Finally got it coalesced into 18 large bins.

All parts are numbered within their separate envelopes and bags.

All in order.

It probably would not be too hard to do a spreadsheet now that the parts are ordered and logistically, and quickly accessible.

Chances are I will just get rid of this pile at some point.

This morning I will label the end and the front on each crate —- which will ID the part numbers in each crate.

I built a 35' X 5' room and installed a doorway from my small upper shop into it, and another small room that is 12' X 10'.

Installed insulation, moisture barriers, interior sheeting, carpet, lighting —- this was just wasted space in part of the attic.

So all of these crates will go on the shelves once they are numbered.
