I give up.  Trying to install this dog, spring and part #65 which is in the parts diagram but not on the parts list.  If is a small rubber washer that appears to sit on the same post as the dog.  However, that does not leave enough room for the dog and the spring is too far away to connect to the dog.  Clear as mud.

any help would be appreciated

Just get rid of the rubber "O" ring, Andy —-

It is not supposed to be in there.

Someone did that before you got into the reel.

Just install the dog spring first —- then the dog.

Some of these reels have a copper washer between the spring and the dog —- but that is not necessary.

Just the spring underneath —- then the dog on top —- and you will be good.

I also generally install the dog spring on the back of the dog for more positive spring strength —- not in the hole.

If you need, or have messed up any parts —- just let me know, and I will send you what you need, N/C.

Fred has the great picture.

Make sure the spring is over the protrusion and up against the reels body.

You have to tilt the dog a little to catch the pointed up leg of the spring. Turning the dog at that angle until you can put it in place.

Thank you gentlemen!  That rubber washer does show on the parts diagram.  That is what had me scratching my head.  I appreciate the help!

All the best in 2023~
