I have a white tub of Shimano drag grease from Tackle Warehouse. I felt like it is not working out well for me when I use it on my Shimano baitcasters gears. I'm looking for a different grease to use instead.

Is Shimano ace-2 grease the same thing? I heard good reviews about it, and I may give it a try. Otherwise, what else should I be using for the gear sets?

What is not working for you? Grease too thick, not staying in place, no corrosion resistant?

There are a number to greases available, Penn, Cal's (purple or tan), Super Lube, Yamaha Blue.

A description of what you do not like will help us find an alternative.

It may not be very productive,
but it's sure going to be interesting!

I had a Curado MGL 150 that have gotten geary feel, like a "loud" whirring feel to them. It is a big difference in feel compared to when theybwere new. I have eliminated the bearings to be the cause. This happened in within 6 months of purchase, and maintenance including changing grease made no difference. Other reels have the same problem, and the common factor is using this grease for the gears.

Even after changing grease in the Curado, the grease on thr gears became like a dark grey sludge after only 2 trips. I felt like this means the grease is causing wear to the gears.

So I thought a new gear set and using different grease will solve the issue. I also wanted to know if the Shimano Ace-2 grease is the same thing as the drag grease mentioned above, or not.

Shimano makes a lot of different grades of grease. Is there any other labeling on the "drag grease" you have? Ace-2 is considered suitable for most areas of a baitcasting reel.

I note in your other post that you have the same problem with multiple reels. How are you fishing them - line weight, technique?

One other thought - on a different forum (not AT) a person had purchased some Penn Grease at a really good price.  Come to find out it wasn't Penn grease (wasn't blue).  So clearly there are folks out there selling counterfeit grease in factory marked packaging.  Not saying that is waht happened here - but clearly it does happen, and if it happened with Penn I would have to believe it could happen to any of the premium folks, especially in the internet market. - john

They were freshwater bass reels. So a wide variety of lures. I got it from Tackle Warehouse. It was a 1 oz white tub of grease that says Shimano Drag Grease. It also says "COSMO Ace RB #2". That's why I'm asking if it is the same thing as ace-2. They look like the same color in the pictures I've seen.

It's most likely ACE-2.  That is the only drag grease Shimano sells here.  In Japan, you can get ACE-0, ACE-2, SHIP-0, and a few others.  ACE-0 is the thinnest and what Shimano of Japan recommends on felt and carbon drags, while they say ACE-2 is for gears, bearings, and level winds (both spinning and casting).  There is also SHIP-0 which is a medium light grease they recommend for larger conventional reel gears.
