thanks for the info! it's not likely that i would ever take on another project like that, anyway.  i'm actually trying scale down the reel repair.  but just like michael corleone, they keep dragging me back in....  ;D

:) Yes if there was going to be a failure in the glue bond , that would be the test .  I like the idea on using the cut offs to make segmented drags . Reminds me of some clutches when drag racing 4 speeds gearbox cars . 

Side note , I have had the brake shoes break the bond on the boat trailer .  Fairly new shoes not long enough for saltwater and rust ot pop them off !
