Where did it say light tackle? You can get big fish on light tackle, just not halibut and rays and the like

A shame he didn't release it... A threatened species and at that age and size full of mercury and other heavy metals.

Probably put up an awesome fight though! I envy him that! :)

Yes, reminds me of shark finning. Many Chinese believe shark fins are good for the health, while it instead ityhey're chock full of mercury. Sure its a part of their heritage and culture, but I think they can give up shark finning.......
