I would try to make a security spring like the one on my AG Seven and leave the Ambassadeur spring in place.

I have taken a leaf spring and brazed it to the dog after sticking it between the pawl and the thin Ss Ears that folks one the pawl. It add a bit of friction to the cravings but it works well l.
