Found some interesting pictures of 8500ss on this site: http://ohuls.blog9.fc2.com/blog-entry-313.html
Don't know language but sure looks like one way bearing installed.
I wonder if it works properly and how strong it is because now it has no back up dogs.

I never forget a face, but in your case I'll be glad to make an exception! :)

i don't know about not having back-up dogs because the last photo shows the ratchet with the dogs. unless the series of photos is in the reverse order, bottom to top... ???  ::)

here's the page translated by a "pigeon"... ;) :D ;D

I wonder where you can source these from? Would like to see a close up photo of the rotor to see how it drives. Maybe it uses the same drive system as the SSM?

Before the hi tech (expensive) reels like the Stella were introduced, the hard core Japanese jig fisherman were tricking out the Penn SS series and landing lots of large fish with them. Pretty cool stuff. I'd love to be able to read it.

It looks to me like that because my first thought was that there is no way he could place all that under rotor concerning height distances. Or could he?!
I didn't disassemble any SS for awhile so I don't have a feeling.
