Thinking about making the tranx into a non disengaging levelwind, any ideas?

IMO there's no way that you'll be able to convert it to a non-disengaging level wind because the idle gear #BNT4458 is part of the drive shaft. i have a shimano conquest (non-disengaging) and all my abu synchronized levelwinds' idle gears are on on the opposite side of the handle. The system uses the spool not the drive shaft so when you're casting or free spoll it does not disengage. IMHO opinion for a 25# drag max, this is the Tranx's achilles heel. hope this helps...

btw there are other options out there...

Sorry for commenting on an old thread ???
Why would you want to do that, as I see the fact that the level wind is static during cast as positive.    It should improve the cast and save on wear and tear me thinks.
I have just serviced one of my Tranx  and the little pin that fits in to the worm groove is already very worn after 1 &1/2 seasons use.
