Replace the spool or not?

I picked up a box of old reels.  One of them happened to be the venerable jigmaster 500 and it's actually in excellent shape, without any corrosion or pitting, which is amazing.  But it has the old school penn plastic spool.  Are these fishable? I would assume not since they eventually went to aluminum and being so old as plastic does lose strength with age in my experience.  Where is the best deal on a new or used aluminum spool?

Thanks

Keta

Fill the spool 2/3 of the way or more with Dacron or Spectra and then top with mono and the old plastic spool will still fish.

That's good advice that will serve me well too Lee.
I found a cherry jigmaster from a guy in Shady Cove, OR.
It came with 5 extra plastic spools...all in boxes.. I figured they'd just be shelf dressings  ;D
Never realized they'd be fishable.
